Workshop on "Egyptian women's participation in the Constituent Assembly"

Cairo, on the period from 29 to 30 April 2012

The Arab Center for the Independence of Judiciary and the Legal Profession (ACIJLP) organizes a workshop on "Egyptian women's participation in the Constituent Assembly" on Sunday on the period from 29 to 30 April 2012 at 10:00 am.

The Workshop will discuss many topics relevant to the Constituent Assembly, the participation of Egyptian women as a comparison between the situation in the international conventions and constitutional proclamation in Egypt on women's participation in the Constituent Assembly. The workshop also discusses the stance of political parties and its programs on supporting the participation of women, strategies of civil society to support women's participation in the Constituent Assembly in terms of the proportion and quality of participation, identifying the most important mechanisms and legislation that must be developed in light of the changes caused by the 25th January revolution in the Egyptian society as well as evaluating some similar experiences such as Tunisia's experience, and the possibility of taking advantage of these experiences.

50 participants including human rights activists, media figures and legal professionals will participate in the workshop.

The workshop comes within the framework of the ACIJLP’s activities on the project “Support Women Involvement in Public Life” which will continue over two years, with financial support from the European Union, and includes a number of conferences, workshops, seminars, relevant research papers and training courses.
