World Movement for Democracy Declares Its Solidarity with ACIJLP Pertaining Civil Society Case no. 173
The World Movement for Democracy called on the investigating judge in Case No. 173 of 2011, known as the “Civil Society Organizations case in Egypt, to provide an update on the legal situation of the Arab Center for the Independence of the Judiciary and Legal Profession (ACIJLP) after ruling that there’s no basis for filing a criminal case against five organizations at the 20th of March, 2024, announcing that the case is closed.
The World Movement for Democracy released a “Democratic Alert” stating the acquittal of 85 Egyptian human rights organizations of the charges of foreign funding. However, the Arab Center for the Independence of the Judiciary and the Legal Profession remains under investigation and banned from traveling, even though the Center was one of the first organizations that was broken in 2011, investigating Its employees, and transferring the center’s file to the Supreme State Security Prosecution in 2017. For 7 years till now, the prosecution has not taken any action regarding ACIJLP and its legal situation as well as of its employees who are still banned from traveling.
