The ACIJLP organizes a workshop on "the relationship between the traditional judiciary, legislation and transitional justice"

The Arab Center for the Independence of the Judiciary and Legal professions (ACIJLP) organize a workshop on "the relationship between the traditional judiciary, legislation and transitional justice"  that will start at 6:00 pm on Wednesday, 29th January 2014 -  Cairo .

The workshop will address many of the issues related programs and mechanisms transitional justice, including entrance to the concept and mechanisms of transitional justice, requirements for entry into force of programs and mechanisms of transitional justice in Egypt, the extent of the need for legislation for transitional justice, the features of the draft law on transitional justice, its relevance to the Egyptian situation and its relationship to the traditional judiciary and comment on the draft law on transitional justice.

The workshop aims to shed light on transitional justice in general and raise awareness, and to assess the need to take the necessary measures in the implementation of programs and mechanisms transitional justice for safe transition from tyranny to democracy including fair trial, accountability, fact-finding, compensation, amnesty and commemoration and institutional reform programs as one of the components of transitional justice mechanisms, particularly the field of ​​institutional reform of the judiciary and supporting the independence of judges in the framework of programs and mechanisms of transitional justice.

Many specialists in the field of legislation and the judiciary, media figures, activists in the field of human rights, as well as specialists in sociology and political sociology will participates in the activities of this workshop.

This is the 2nd workshop in a series of activities of the project "supporting the independence of the judiciary in Egypt" which is organized by the ACIJLP with financial support from the National Endowment for Democracy (NED).
