The Arab Center for the Independence of the Judiciary and the Legal Profession (ACIJLP) organizes a workshop on "institutional reform and transitional justice". The activities of the workshop will start at 9:00 am on Wednesday, 30th October 2013 .
The workshop aims to shed light on transitional justice in general and to raise awareness, and to assess the need to take the necessary measures to implement programs and mechanisms of transitional justice for safe exit from tyranny to democracy and human rights. The workshop focuses on the program of institutional reform as one of the components and mechanisms of Transitional justice particularly institutional reform of the judicial authority and supporting the independence of judges within the framework of programs and mechanisms of transitional justice.
Many participants will speak and preside over the workshop including Mr. Mukhtar Noah cassation lawyer, Mr. Nasser Amin- lawyer and director general of the ACIJLP , Mr. Samir Morcos researcher and political thinker and an deputy of former President , Chancellor Abdul Rahim Al-kashef, President of the Court of Appeal , Mr. Alaa Shalaby Secretary-General of the Arab Organization for Human Rights, Mr. Nabil Abdel Fattah, head of History of Al - Ahram, Marwan Abu Samra , regional adviser for the United Nations Development Programme , Dr. Ehab Al-Kharrat former Chairman of the human rights committee of Shura Council and Chancellor Hisham Rauf Vice- President of the Court of Cassation and the assistant and former Minister of Justice . Many human rights activities including judges, lawyers and law professors, and media professionals will participate in the workshop.
the workshop will discuss many topics relevant to programs and mechanisms of transitional justice, and institutional reform such as an entrance to the transitional justice (concept and mechanisms), transitional justice (the effect of new participatory life, the role of civil society on institutional reform in the field of transitional justice and institutional reform (case study on judicial institutions), in addition to visions and proposals for institutional reform in Egypt, and proposals of judicial reform in the field of transitional justice.
This is the second workshop in a series of activities of the project (supporting the independence of the judicial authority in Egypt) organized by the ACIJLP with financial support from the National Endowment for Democracy (NED) .
