The ACIJLP Condemns the assassination attempt on the Egyptian Interior Minister
And demanding the Egyptian authorities not to resort to extraordinary measures
The Arab Center for the Independence of the Judiciary and the Legal Profession (ACIJLP) expresses its full condemnation of all forms of violence in general, and expresses its condemnation of the assassination attempt against Major General Mohamed Ibrahim, Egyptian Interior Minister, this morning, Thursday, 05th September 2013, near his home at Mustafa Al-Nahas street in Nasr City, Cairo while his convoy is bypassing on his way to his office at the Interior Ministry, which resulted, according to official statements, in the killing of two people and injury of 4 other people.
The ACIJLP expresses its deep concern that this criminal act is a practical implementation of the threats that have already expressed by some elements of political –Islamic parties and the Muslim Brotherhood, in the context of the political struggle for power witnessed in Egypt. Hence, this brings to mind the waves of armed violence by groups of political Islam, which witnessed in Egypt during the period from 1990 to 1997, which targeted foreign tourists and police officers and affected civilians in a series of bombing attack tossed by explosive devices, and which were described as violent acts in Egypt's modern history.
The ACIJLP also indicates that such kind of crimes cannot be justified at all and does not fall within the scope of political dissent in any way. Such attacks represent criminal acts which fall within the provisions of the criminal law, and should not be a motivation for political dialogue witnessed in Egypt at this time.
The ACIJLP also expresses its full condemnation of all forms of violence in general, and its condemnation of the assassination attempt on Egyptian Interior Minister, and the emergence of this kind of criminal acts in Egypt. Thus, The ACIJLP calls upon the concerned Egyptian authorities to take prompt and urgent action to prosecute and bring to accountability the perpetrators and instigators of violence and killings and bring them to a fair and equitable trial without any resort to extraordinary measures.
