"The independence of the Judiciary in Egypt between dependency and Reform"

 

The Arab Center for the Independence of Judiciary and Legal Profession organizes a workshop on "The independence of the Judiciary in Egypt between dependency and Reform", The activities of this workshop will start at 09.00 am on Thursday, June 27, 2013 (Flamenco Hotel- Zamalek – Cairo)

It is scheduled that each of Chancellor/ Dr. Abdul Rahim El Kashif - President of Court of Appeal, Chancellor Hanafi Mosa - deputy chief of the Administrative Prosecution ,  Mr. Saber Ammar  - Assistant Secretary General of the Arab Lawyers Union , Mr. Essam Islambouli  - lawyer at Cassation court and human rights activist ,  Mr.  Sayed Shaaban lawyer at Cassation court and Assistant Secretary-General of the Arab Lawyers Union and Mr. Tariq Negida lawyer at Cassation court will participate in the workshop by speaking and chairing the sessions, in addition many legal professions will participate in the session including judges , law professors, lawyers and media persons.

The workshop deals with many topics like: a reading in the legislations of the judiciary in Egypt, assessment of drafts to amend the law on judicial authority between attempts to prejudice the independence of the judiciary and the prospects for reform and visions and perceptions in order to support and strengthen the independence of the judiciary in Egypt.

Furthermore, the workshop targets a search in the mechanisms to ensure supporting  and strengthening  the independence of the judiciary, and what is required it to modify many of legislations governing the  judiciary in line with international standards, and the integration and dissemination of  human rights culture in the educational and formative system of the judiciary and the involvement of civil society and political parties in strengthening the independence of the judiciary, The workshop also aims to search at the mechanisms that  immunize judges physically and cognitively against any interventions or violations of their independence and give them the right to form unions and professional associations as a means to immunize and defend for the interests and improve their professional performance.

This workshop is the first in a series of activities within a project under the title: (Support the Independence of Judiciary in Egypt) organized by the Centre with financial support from the National Endowment for Democracy (NED (.
