Current Programs


Researches & Studies Program

This program involves preparing specialized legal studies and research on the statuses of justice, human rights, the independence of judiciary and the legal profession and legislations relevant to the judiciary and legal profession. It also examines the consistency of these legislations with international constitutions, instruments and principles concerned with human rights.

 

Training program

 

This program is concerned with organizing training courses with the objective of raising legal awareness of jurists and their professional practice. The center achieves this through the expertise of Egyptian law professors, senior lawyers and psychology and sociology professors.

 

Monitoring & following-up program

 

This program monitors and documents violations which judiciary members and lawyers are subjected to. Further, ACIJLP addresses concerned authorities in order to take the necessary measures to eliminate and to prevent these violations that are caused by legislation or the wrong implementation of legislation, or wrong practice by an executive authority or citizens in general. The program is carried out by a number of lawyers who work at the center as well as voluntary lawyers who received training in the center.

This program includes:

·        Receiving complaints from lawyers or judges

·        Monitoring cases through newspapers

·        Monitoring cases through voluntary lawyers

·        Attending investigations concerning lawyers’ cases

·        Visiting prisons and following-up situations of detained lawyers

 

Urgent interventions program:

 

This program aims to intervene immediately in cases concerning the violations of human rights and judiciary in all countries by providing technical, legal and media assistance.

 

International criminal justice program

 

This program involves raising governmental and non-governmental awareness of the significance of the International Criminal Court as the most important new mechanism to instill criminal justice on a global level and to defend human rights. It also aims to raise recognition of the ICC’s importance in advancing and strengthening awareness of international instruments relevant to justice in general and criminal justice specifically.

 

Legal aid program

 

This program offers legal assistance to activists who are working in the field of public rights and freedoms and are being subjected to trials or investigations. This work is accomplished by specialist lawyers working in the ACIJLP.

 

Technical aid program

 

This program offers technical consultation and assistance to governments, non-governmental institutions and international institutions who are concerned with drafting laws relevant to the status of justice, rights and freedoms. ACIJLP conducts this through consultative committees which include experts and professionals who may be working in the center or not.
