Present the status of justice and independence of the Egyptian judiciary

In front of the Human Rights Council of the United Nations

 

Mr. Nasser Amin, lawyer and the director of the Arab Center for Independence of the Judiciary and the Legal Profession (ACIJLP) in the work of the International Council for Human Rights in its 22nd session held in the Swiss capital "Geneva" since Monday, 25th February 2013 and continues its activities until 22nd March 2013.

on Tuesday, 19th March it is scheduled that Mr. Nasser Amin will make a presentation on the situation of justice and the independence of the judiciary in Egypt, the obstacles that hinder the conditions of justice and the independence of the judiciary and how to overcome these obstacles and ensure equal access to quick justice.

Mr. Amin also addresses the challenges facing national legislation in the enforcement of human rights law and ensuring the rule of law. The presentation also includes how the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights and other bodies of the United Nations can help to strengthen the judicial system and the administration of justice.

This presentation is followed by Mr. Amin’s responses to comments and inquiries made ​​by representatives of the countries participating in the 22nd session of the International Council for Human Rights.

It is scheduled that Mr.  Param Cumaraswamy, the former UN Special Rapporteur on the Independence of Judges and Lawyers (1994-2003) and a founding member of the Working Group for the establishment of an ASEAN Human Rights Mechanism will share Mr. Amin his presentation.

It is noted that this session witnessing the celebration of the 20th anniversary of the Vienna Declaration and Programme of Action adopted by the World Conference on Human Rights in 1993, and which aim to promote activities related to human rights in all parts of the world.
