The ACIJLP organizes a seminar for media figures in Upper Egypt on
"The role of the media in combating the culture of violence and habits against the right to life in Upper Egypt"
The Arab Center for the Independence of Judiciary and the Legal Profession (ACIJLP) organizes a seminar for media figures in Upper Egypt on "The role of the media in combating the culture of violence and habits against the right to life in Upper Egypt" on 14th March 2013 in Minya Governorate.
The seminar comes within the framework of the ACIJLP’s activities on the project “Reducing the application of the Death Penalty in the Arab States” which will continue throughout 2013, with financial support from the European Union.
30 media figures from different media means (either audio or visual or reading) will participate in the seminar in addition to many human rights activists.
The seminar aims to raise awareness of the Egyptian media figures about the importance of the right to life, reducing the application of the death penalty and replace it with alternative sanctions, and disseminating the culture of tolerance and combating acts of violence.
The seminar will address the status of the right to life and the death penalty in international legislation and in the Egyptian legislation, the role of the media in guiding societal culture on respect for human rights, the role of the Egyptian media in reducing crimes of revenge and honor and guiding philosophy of punishment in the community and the media strategy to support the role of civil society organizations working in the field of reducing the application of the death penalty.
Lawyers, human rights activists and media figures will participate in the seminar.
The ACIJLP Scheduled to organize many events, regional conferences, training courses and research studies related to the reduction of the application of the death penalty in the Arab countries, whether in Egypt or the Arab countries.
