ACIJLP ORGANIZES A SEMINAR FOR MEDIA PROFESSIONALS IN UPPER EGYPT ON:
"THE ROLE OF MEDIA IN THE FIGHT AGAINST THE CULTURE OF VIOLENCE AND HABITS AGAINST THE RIGHT TO LIFE IN UPPER EGYPT"

The Arab Center for Independence of the Judiciary and the Legal Profession (ACIJLP) Organizes a seminar for Egyptian media professionals about "the role of media in the fight against the culture of violence and habits against the right to life in Upper Egypt" on Thursday, February 7, 2013 in Assiut governorate.

 The seminar comes as part of the Arab Center Campaign for the Independence of the Judiciary and Lawyers on "limiting the application of death penalty in Arab countries," which the center launched since the beginning of 2010 and will continue until 2013 with the financial support of the European Union.

30 media professionals will participate in this seminar from different Egyptian media; audio, video and printed ones, in addition to many human rights activities.

The seminar aims to raise the awareness of Egyptian media professionals on human rights, stress on the importance of the right to life, limit the application of death penalty to be replaced by alternative sanctions and promot a culture of tolerance and anti-violence.

The seminar addresses the role of media in guiding societal culture on respect for human rights, the role of Egyptian media in reducing crimes of revenge and honor killings and guides philosophy of punishment in the community along with media strategy to support the role of civil society organizations working in the field of reducing the application of the death penalty.

Many human rights activists and journalists will participate in the discussions of this seminar.

The center will organize, in the framework of the abovementioned campaign, many events in Egypt and other Arab countries; regional conferences, training courses and research studies related to the reduction of the application of death penalty in Arab countries.
