First training course for
lawyers & activists in the field of human rights in the Arab region on “
International criminal Court ICC” from 24 – 27 May 2001 in Cairo:
ACIJLP organized the
first Arab training session on the International Criminal Court (ICC) in
Cairo, from 24-27 May 2001 which included involving of participation from
various Arab seventy fife states (Iraq – Palestine – Jordan – Syria –
Kuwait – Egypt – Lebanon – Sudan – Qatar – Saudi Arabia – Morocco – Yemen)
as well as participants of the League of
Arab States, international expertise from (France – Italy – United
States of America), number of Egyptian, Arab and international
governmental, non-governmental organizations and Arab Embassies on Cairo.
The opening ceremony started with remarks of Arab Lawyers Union,
the League of Arab States, Dr.
Foua’d Reyad, ex-judge of International Criminal Tribunal of Yugoslavia
and the Arab Center for the Independence of the Judiciary and the Legal
Profession ACIJLP. This course aimed at raising awareness of ICC for
jurists, diplomats and media figures. Twelve research papers on ICC were
presented by number of Arab and foreign experts.
