Mr. Nasser Amin, the Egyptian lawyer and Secretary General of the Arab Center for the Independence of the Judiciary and the Legal Profession (ACIJLP) coordinator of the Arab NGO Coalition for the International Criminal Court (ACICC), departed from Cairo on 29 June 2002, heading to New York to preside the ACICC delegation participating in the 10th Preparatory Commission Session (PrepCom). The PrepCom will be held from 1 to 12 July 2002 at the UN headquarters in New York. The delegation includes representatives of Arab NGOs members in the ACICC from Egypt, Tunisia, and Algeria. The 10th PrepCom will bear witness on a historical event, namely the establishment of the ICC and the coming into force of the ICC Statute. Discussions of the Assembly of States Parties’ agenda will take place in this PrepCom as well. The 10th PrepCom will address the following issues: the definition of the crime of aggression, discussion of the financial affairs of the ICC and the first year budget (judges’ compensation and the Trust Fund), the first meeting of the Assembly of States Parties (including election of judges, prosecutors, and the administrative staff), in addition to other important issues concerning the operation of the ICC. |
